Banded Iron

Family: Layers of Black Iron Oxide (either Magnetite or Hematite), with alternating banded red layers of cherts containing Iron oxides

Hardness: 5 - 5.5

Some of the oldest rock formations on Earth, approx. 2.2 Billion years old, formed during the "Great Oxygenation Event". The ones you see in the shoppe were collected by us right here in Ontario. Magnets will pick up Banded Iron, which makes it fun, as most stones are not magnetic. It has been used as a wonderful grounding tool, helping us to focus on the task at hand and get things done. This is great for those of us who have millions of ideas and daydreams in our heads! I use it whilst I'm studying difficult concepts and when we need to accomplish things I don't necessarily like doing. Banded Iron is identified with our root chakra~ our primal energies, urges and passions. It is said to help us know what is right and wrong, and to stand up for what we believe in. It drives us to achieve what we came to Earth for. Great for decision making and clearing the channel for understanding the whole picture in any situation.
