Obsidian has been used since antiquity for both physical protection in the form of arrowheads & tools, as well as for its beauty. It begins as hot magma deep within the Earth, & when pressure builds up enough to cause the volcano to erupt, the lava cools very quickly (in the case of Obsidian), forming the shiny black volcanic glass. So we can get a good idea of how obsidian has been used to relieve pressure & stress from our bodies & minds, by causing hidden knowledge to be brought to the surface. Black is the colour of all things hidden, mysterious, buried within; a symbol of what higher wisdom we carry inside.
